Vassos Alexander
Vassos Alexander is one of the UK’s most recognisable and best-loved sports broadcasters. Every weekday morning, millions of listeners wake up to his voice on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, where his trademark enthusiasm for all things sport and movement sets the tone for the day. He’s also a regular on BBC Radio and Television, where he’s covered some of the biggest events in global sport—from the Olympics and The Ashes to Wimbledon, the World Cup, the Open, and the World Darts Championship.

But Vassos doesn’t just report on elite sport—he lives it. A passionate and accomplished endurance runner, he has completed over 100 marathons and ultra races, including the legendary 153-mile Spartathlon in Greece, the South Downs Way 100, and several Ironman triathlons. He’s run a marathon in under three hours, tackled mountain trails, and even uses his daily 11-mile commute across London as part of his training. For Vassos, running—and now swimming—are more than just fitness goals; they’re a way of life.

In addition to his broadcasting and sporting accomplishments, Vassos is the author of four acclaimed books. His debut, Don’t Stop Me Now, published in 2016, tells the story of how he went from reluctant jogger to marathon obsessive. It was followed by Running Up That Hill, which dives deeper into the strange and wonderful world of ultra-running, and How to Run a Marathon, a motivational guide packed with practical advice and heartfelt insight. His most recent book, Swimmingly, will be published by Bloomsbury in August 2025. A love letter to wild and open-water swimming, it follows his journey from local dips in the Thames to training for a solo Channel swim, exploring the joy, peace, and surprising community to be found in cold water.

Vassos is also a highly sought-after event and awards host, as well as a popular after-dinner speaker known for his warmth, humour and inspiring storytelling. In 2024, he was named an ambassador for the Personal Best Foundation, a charity helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their potential through sport.

He lives in southwest London with his wife and their three children. When he’s not on air, on the trails or in the water, he’s likely at a Parkrun, cheering from the sidelines, or chasing the next adventure—with the same energy he brings to everything he does
