Xero teams up with Candice Brown to support businesses preparing for new tax rules

Great British Bake Off winner, author and pub owner Candice Brown has teamed up with Xero to help raise awareness about the major new tax rule, which will impact more than one million small businesses.

Candice, co-owner of The Green Man pub, said: “Every business owner, especially those in hospitality, has been hit hard by the pandemic. Even though our doors are back open, we’re still trying to recoup what we lost.

“Anything related to the financial side of the pub makes me nervous, so I can empathise with any business owner feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of filing digital VAT returns. I have an incredible relationship with my accountant, who has made adapting to this change so easy. I’m now seeing the benefits of using technology to keep on top of finances throughout the year, so tax isn’t so scary at year end.”

Alex von Schirmeister, Managing Director at Xero said: “Against an extremely challenging backdrop, the last thing anyone wants to deal with is yet more red tape. But with the right planning, support and tools, there is no reason why this new digital tax rule should be a burden.

“Candice is one of the many entrepreneurs who has shown sheer grit and determination over the past couple of years. And as we are faced with continued uncertainty, it’s businesses like hers that will continue to prop up the nation.”
